On the trail of TM and Ayurveda in India and Nepal

Visiting one of the three Pandit Schools in Pokhara, Nepal

As one of the leading German representatives for Ayurveda, Lothar Pirc, founder of the Maharishi Ayurveda Clinic Bad Ems, has visited several emerging Ayurveda clinics in India and Nepal. Such traditional treatment centers are being developed in the future entertainment park Vedaland (near Pune, India) and in Pokhara, Nepal. The Ayurveda expert also visited several Pandit Schools there. At Dr. Patil University in Pune, where he was appointed professor, he and his colleagues have trained the first 100 students in the practice of Transcendental Meditation.

The tour started in Kathmandu, where Lothar Pirc participated as moderator and keynote speaker at the seventh International Ayurveda Congress (we reported briefly). A total of 350 delegates from 14 countries attended the congress, and the three-day event was broadcast live on 45 Internet channels. Afterwards, he and his colleague Brahmachari Dr. Girish Momaya flew to Pokhara, where the German Foundation for the Promotion of Vedic Heritage supports three Pandit Schools, to meet and talk with students and school principals. They also visited the site where construction of the new clinic in Pokhara has begun, together with the two directors of Maharishi Ayurveda, Dr. Rainer Picha and Dr. Walter Mölk.

Together with Dr. Girish Momaya and two Indian TM teachers, Mr. Pirc then traveled to the DPU College of Ayurveda & Research Centre in Pimpri, Pune, to teach TM to the first 100 students. The students were very enthusiastic about the video lectures by the founder of Transcendental Meditation, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Mr. Pirc had already visited the institution in December to instruct all twelve faculty leaders in the meditation practice. He has been appointed Professor of Practice there and starting from May, he will regularly lecture on Vedic Management to MBA students. The faculty currently has 10,000 students from around the world, including 3,000 from Africa.

Visits to the University for World Peace and to Vedaland

Also in Pune, a cooperation is being established with another renowned university, the Maharashtra Institute of Technology, with 67,000 students in five locations, which has changed its name into University of World Peace a few years ago. Lothar Pirc gave a presentation there to 20 professors and had a personal conversation with the university’s founder, Prof Dr. Vishwanath Karad. Lothar Pirc expects many professors and students of the University of World Peace to learn TM soon.

Next, Lothar Pirc and Girish Momaya were invited to an important meeting with Vedaland investor Shri G. S. Kale and Hon. Sudhir Mungantiwar, Minister in the Maharashtra government, a state with 110 million inhabitants. Investor Kale is building a Vedaland there that will be comparable to Disneyland Paris, with all the attractions in Kale’s project based on Vedic knowledge. Mr. Pirc has been there several times already as advisor in the development of the Ayurveda clinic that will be part of the project. He was impressed by the progress: the ground work is almost complete.

Students and professors practice Transcendental Meditation

From Pune, the tour continued via Delhi to Lucknow and Ayodhya. At Noida (near Delhi) and Lucknow, Mr. Pirc visited two Maharishi Universities for Information Technology with a total of 2900 students. At both institutions, he was impressed by the high-quality facilities and especially by the cheerfulness and cordiality of the students and professors, who have all practiced TM twice a day for years.

In Ayodhya, there is a Pandit School with 200 students, in an auspicious Sthapatya Veda building. Preparations are being made to establish a Ramayana university there. On the occasion, Mr. Pirc also visited various pilgrimage sites, such as the traditional birthplaces of Rama and Krishna.

His personal conclusion:

„Although I have traveled over 7500 kilometers within India by plane and car and have given many lectures, all the time I felt carried, energetic and happy, and it was a wonderful experience to see the esteem in which the founder of Transcendental Meditation, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is held.“
